After Dahye and Sean de Givenchy’s civil ceremony in New York City—where the couple is based—the newlyweds are looking ahead to their larger wedding celebration in Paris this summer. As the planning and fashion is in order, the bride-to-be is shifting gears and sharing her Dream Registry picks with us.
Dahye expresses that as she gets older her aesthetic has grown with her, becoming more refined and timeless. “In fashion and my personal style, I do love to try new trends as it is a fun way to express myself, but in terms of interior design, I love a classic appeal,” she shares. “I look to design eras that have stood the test of time and personalize it with my cultural connections to result in a modern interpretation of an ‘East meets West’ aesthetic.”
As Sean’s father was an interior designer in Paris, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to curating items for their spaces. “Our philosophy is to start from a base of beautiful investment pieces, like furniture and art, that we know we will keep forever. Then, we take our time to collect objects from our travels, gifts we’ve received over the years, and art that we chance upon,” Dahye shares. “We try our best to not follow a ‘catalogue’ of what is trending in the moment and rather trust that over time the collection will grow and will make our space uniquely ours.”
Currently, the pair is merging their styles in their Manhattan apartment, aesthetically informed by their international backgrounds. “I am Korean-Canadian, and Sean is French-American with roots from Hong Kong,” Dahye shares. “We have a rich cultural repository to be inspired from and mesh these cultures to make a meaningful space.”
For their Dream Registry, Dahye intentionally chooses heirloom-quality pieces and highlights those that will regularly remind them of the gift-giver. The Salisbury Chippendale Tray with Wedding Invitation is a must-add, and the Z.d.G. Picardie Large Serving Platter is not only functional for various occasions but it’s also designed by Sean’s aunt, Zoë de Givenchy—who created her own Dream Registry not too long ago! “I can see this platter being used for a bagel brunch, a summertime salad, or even crepes!” the bride exclaims.
Lastly, the Two’s Company Canton Tea Jars act as the perfect touch of chinoiserie. “I think this item would fit in so well with the interior we already have,” Dahye shares. “We love to embed East Asian elements in our modern interior.”
The bride leaves us with key advice for other couples making their Over The Moon Registries: “Making a home together for the first time as a newlywed household is different than when you move in together as partners who are dating. Making a home as a married couple is truly an integration of each other’s lives, so I would think of items that will remind you of both your vows to each other on a daily basis. For example, beautiful frames for the wedding photos, engraved silver pieces, and fresh linens. Our environment reflects who we are as people and the changes that happen internally between a couple after a marriage is not necessarily visible to the eye. Even if you don’t move into a new place right after the wedding, items that celebrate and mark this milestone are crucial to ushering in a new and exciting life chapter!”
